BEDSPREADS DADI I
The finest, hand-carded and -spun cashmere wool from the Altai Himalayas is used to weave the Gisbert Pöppler blankets.
A spinner works for about four months just to produce the yarn for the large BEDSPREAD DADI (3.20 x 3.20 cm). Dyed with natural colors, the textile is woven by three weavers on a loom, specially built with 2600 warp threads. For five days, this part of the process takes place in a small Nepalese manufactory in Katmandu. Row by row, centimeter by centimeter, the blanket grows – in double face. This means that the front and back sides are woven simultaneously, so that the coverlet appears pleasantly heavy and valuable. A bedspread weighs around six kilograms. Due to the weight, the bedspread gradually smoothes itself on the bed. Many different looks can be created with the sophisticated color allocation of both front and back.
