GISBERT PÖPPLER OFFICE – SHOWROOM
With its move to the Karl-Marx-Allee, Gisbert Pöppler has chosen a very special place for a studio: During the Cold War, the three-kilometer-long boulevard was the parade street of East Germany.
Built to 1950´s Soviets standards – refers to by historians as Socialist Classicism, and injest: "Confectioner’s style" the buildings are adorned with elaborate ceramics depicting Soviet ideals.
These were, according to state propaganda "palaces for the workers" with its spectacular 90 meter wide street for political marches, state processions and military displays.
By the fall of communism in 1989/90, the street had fallen into disrepair; fortunately, the entire ensemble has been listed as a historical monument and is being preserved.
Now, an exciting transformation is happening as international galleries like (Capitain Petzel, Peres Projects) move in bringing a new vibe and attitude to the area.
